The emergency department will consist of six ER beds and ambulance bays, allowing for the replication of diverse scenarios, including cardiac arrest, trauma and mass casualty simulations. The intense situations experienced here will help prepare the students with the technical skills and emotional response capacity to address real-world, life-or-death crises as members of interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
The clinic setting will provide another stop in the continuum of care. The students will interact with standardized patients with a myriad of complaints in an outpatient clinic and will need to conduct focused assessments and think critically to provide safe, quality care. Video teleconferencing and telehealth capabilities will help students effectively care for patients after discharge or before admission to the hospital.
