Summer Scholars

Miami-Dade high school students interested in pursuing careers in healthcare get a taste of reality during their field trip to the Simulation Hospital. Experiential learning is a highlight of the School’s Health Promotion, Prevention and Rehabilitation course. The students get to see how a real hospital looks and functions, from emergency room to inpatient to intensive care, clinic and outpatient settings. They practice airway management, observe a birthing simulation, check out the Anatomage Table—the most technologically advanced anatomy visualization system—and get to operate a high-fidelity mannequin from the high-tech control room. For these young students, most of whom have had limited exposure to healthcare settings, seeing is understanding—and a rich experience to explore where their future interests may lie.
